The Irish Heather will offers a reception, tasting and dinner on their long table that will feature an exclusive selection of bourbons produced by Buffalo Trace Distillery of Frankfort, Kentucky. The Wines of Chile Fall Festival will celebrate the pairing of Chilean wine and food with a part festival-style, part causal winemaker's dinner event, all for one ticket price (ranging from $89 to $129, on sale September 1). The evening starts with a reception at the Sutton Place Hotel featuring more than 100 wines from 30 Chilean wineries. From there, wine lovers will break out to one of 14 different winemaker dinner events. Wines of Argentina

"Discover Your Inner Tango with Wines of Argentina" is a tasting event that offers an exclusive opportunity to sample some of Argentina’s most lauded wines. Many of the wines are not currently available at BC Liquor Stores. More than 48 Argentinean wineries will participate to pour wines that vary from the dark vivacious Malbec-based reds, to the distinctive indigenous Torrontés. The top-quality wines will be paired with bites prepared by Executive Chef Federico Ziegler of Mendoza’s award-winning Restaurant La Bourgogne at the Vistalba Carlos Pulenta winery.  Chef Ziegler, who has worked at renowned restaurants in France as well as South America, will design a menu featuring authentic Argentinean flavours to show the wines at their best. Ripe: the 1st Annual Evening of Local Food and Libations

An evening filled with local talent from our farmers (their produce), regional brew masters, vintners (libations) and chefs (Robert Clark and Quang Dan of C Restaurant). Funds raised from ticket sales and the silent auction will support a range of other Vancouver Farmers Markets' initiatives including a Farmers Nest Egg Fund which supports vendor-farmers and helps to expand the network of local farmers; and (2) the New City Market which is a venue to house a winter/year-round farmers market and resource facility. Tickets can be purchased at ANY and ALL of the Farmers Market or at various locations around the city. OCTOBER 1 - 10, 2009:
29th Okanagan Fall Wine Festival.

The 10 day, 150 event Fall Wine Festival takes place throughout Okanagan Wine Country and includes events ranging from informal wine tastings to wine education seminars, dinners, music and the arts.  Ninety-two wineries will be busy showcasing their harvest to residents and tourists throughout the festival which takes place during the heart of the harvest and crushing season.  Over 40 local wineries will pour wine at the WestJet Wine Tastings taking place Friday October 2 and Saturday October 3 at the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort Hotel in Kelowna, B.C. Tickets are $55 and include a souvenir wine glass and a free taxi ride home. Other events include the Gourmet and Grapes Gala taking place at Cabana Grille in Kelowna with six participating local restaurants and a black box Iron Chef Competition between Ned Bell from Cabana and Wayne Martin from “Fraiche” in Vancouver. SUSTENANCE: Feasting on Art & Culture:

The Roundhouse, Get Local (a partnered project of FarmFolk/CityFolk and the Vancouver Farmers Market) and the BC Farmers’ Market Nutrition and Coupon Project are proud to present “SUSTENANCE: Feasting on Art & Culture.” A first time, unique celebration, SUSTENANCE Festival starts on Thursday, October 1 and culminates on World Food Day: October 16th. SUSTENANCE endeavours to connect the communities of art, culture, and food security. The Festival will offer a bounty of fun, learning, and agri-tainment, with over 20 food related art exhibits, 15 interactive pieces on display, and loads of events over two weeks. The CITYFOOD Kitchen will feature local food cooking classes by Chef Darren Clay, and workshops to teach people how to preserve food to eat locally through the winter. Family Day on Saturday, October 10 will entertain kids with piñata making and breaking, a pumpkin pie eating contest, and a workshop by Growing Chefs, a non-profit society that works to inspire a love of growing and eating sustainable food in young people. SUSTENANCE Festival will also feature a special screening of the award-winning foodie film, Tableland, by local filmmaker Craig Noble. A culinary expedition in search of the people, place and taste of North American small-scale, sustainable food production, Tableland celebrates the positive working models of growing and consuming local food. Thursday, October 8 will have people saying “OHHHHH FOOD!” A naughty night of food with forbidden fruit wine, saucy storytelling, erotic culinary poetry reading, and special sexy production: those dirty fruits and vegetables brought to you by Biovia Organic Link Ltd., will make for an exciting event for Adults Only. The final day of festivities will celebrate World Food Day on Friday, October 16 with a Pocket Market from 11:00 am-5:00 pm set up on site at The Roundhouse. All produce will come from Southlands Farm, a 2.6 acre family farm located in Vancouver’s Southlands neighbourhood. The evening will bring the Closing Celebration starting at 6 pm, with real beer, food, a performance by The Pressure Cooker Theatre, and music by The Carnival Band. SUSTENANCE Festival will be held at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre in Yaletown, and at several satellite locations. Vancouver Chinese Cultural Festival '09.

To celebrate the 60 Anniversary of Chinese National Day and Heritage, the Association of Chinese Cultural Promotion Canada is working with Donnelly & Associates to produce Vancouver Chinese Cultural Festival’09. The  VCCF’09 will present a three-day program which features pavilion displays, sponsor exhibits, Chinese food experience and non-stop Chinese entertainment. The festival will include matinee performances and exhibits as well as ticketed concerts in the evenings. The performances on stage will include both modern and traditional performers, featuring a fusion of Chinese influence of live music, dance, fashion and art all on one stage. Chef Melissa Craig at Black Hills Estate Winery.

The executive chef at Whistler’s Bearfoot Bistro, will take her cooking skills to the Black Hills Estate Winery for the ‘Bearfoot at Black Hills’ Harvest Dinner.  Diners at the Bearfoot at Black Hills dinner will enjoy a harvest dinner prepared and served in a tent right in the Black Hills vineyard. Four courses will be served and paired with Black Hills wines, which will include the Nota Bene, Alibi, Carmenere and Chardonnay. 2nd Annual Island Chefs' Survival.

Victoria's finest chefs battle obstacles and race through farm fields to find the food and utensils they need to create two dishes for auction. All proceeds go to protect Madrona Farm, in association with The Land Conservancy of BC's efforts to secure the farm's continued viability for future generations. Guests at this winemaker’s gourmet dinner and auction will enjoy an evening of outstanding food and wine while supporting the critically important work of Whistler’s search and rescue volunteers.Organizers are delighted to welcome the return of five of Whistler’s renowned Executive Chefs: Chef Vincent Stufano, Fairmont Chateau Whistler; Chef Scott Dolbee, Four Seasons Resort Whistler; Chef Grant Cousar, Whistler Cooks & Catering; Chef Steve Bjormark, Whistler Blackcomb;and Chef James Walt, Araxi Restaurant. Chef Robert Belcham's The ‘Whole Hog’ menu will feature pork from Sloping Hills Farm. The five-course menu is $69; and wine pairings chosen by Sommelier Tom Doughty can be added for $39. The Icewine Festival has been a staple at Sun Peaks Resort every January, and while this winter is no exception, the festival has been rebranded as the Winter Wine Festival. The expanded event will highlight not only icewines, but also many different varietals from the Okanagan Valley. Wander through the snow covered village sampling wine during the Progressive Tasting, learn how to pair cheese with different varietals, or indulge yourself in a Winemasters’ Dinner at a local restaurant.
