Chef Alana Goes for Gold
There are so many chefs in this town surrounded by large hype machines (or who have an ego so large they don't need one), it's refreshing to see some of the more modest, yet no less talented, cooks stepping into the spotlight for a change. A good example is Chef Alana Peckham, who for several years has quietly been doing impressive work for Cru Restaurant on Broadway. While we never like to see female chefs singled out just for being female, it does seem notable that Peckham will be the sole woman chef competing this year at Vancouver's Canadian Gold Medal Plates on November 4th, 2011. We think she's a contender. See the halibut plate she prepared for our new Fall issue (page 15). Prosciutto-wrapped halibut with caramelized cauliflower, shaved fennel and pear, with lemon-caper butter sauce. Plus, she's just released new fall menus to coincide with the major renovations that Cru just unveiled this week. If you would like to get to know Chef a little better, you'll get the opportunity when she appears at two upcoming cooking classes: September 27, 2011: Ambrosia Adventures in Cooking. October 4, 2011: The Arts Club Celebrity Chef Series (Stay tuned for more photos of the Cru renos.) ![]() |
